I run 87 - all the time (unless I'm towing). Just completed yet another trip from south Florida to New York non-stop. Not a single problem.

I run Bp/Amoco C93 all the time and today i added 5g of Phillips 100 oct race gas trying to pin point my small knock retard (gas or Km). Man does that $hit smell good/ going to be brain dead if I keep smelling the exhaust . Oh yeah 100 oct = 3.59 a gallon

i hear by the end of summer gas will be $3.00/gallon. Unless racing fuel jumps up to $4, i'll run racing fuel!...or sell my camaro and buy a hybrid like they're forcing us to do.

I've ran 87 octane for damn near a year... put a jillion miles on the motor... no engine related problems... didn't even notice a different...other than it cost less... I'm back to using 93 only now though... since gas is 2.15 who gives a **** now...??? It's goign to be expensive anyway...just run 93... ANyhow 87 shouldn't hurt...as long as the SES light is off and there's no knocking you should be good.

i only run 93 i dont see why people flip out about the price diff between 87 and 93 its like 10 cents a gallon which comes to about $1.50 a fillup.....is $1.50 worth the chance of engine problems? or worth getting pissed at the car cause its running like crap?

Yup, my thoughts exactly. I run only 93. It gives me peace of mind.

It is also a way to show your car that you love her. She will love you back.

The only thing that saves the motor when running 87 is the knock sensor, as the octane is clearly too low for the LT1. That said, if you drive it conservatively I doubt you would damage it with 87. There is big performance hit if you do get on it, due to the spark retard, but you shouldn't be getting on it with 87 in the tank anyway. Even running 93 you will see spark retard under WOT in warm weather or at low rpm, the stock timing on an LT1 is quite aggressive.

Well my friend in his 94 z ran his best time at the track like 8.40's a while back. But I always did you use 93 now i rotate, between 93 and 89, I personally can't tell the difference at the track or at WOT around here between the 2 and hear no knock, Ithink with the pcm 89 is ok and will not hurt your engine, some peaple on the board only use that anyway.

try to remember that you cannot hear all knock...in fact in these cars if you can audibly hear it its probably too late already. There is a reason knock sensors are as sensitive as they are...

If you run the stock programming it will adjust to 87 and run with no pinging but less power.
However if you run the HPP3 or have your pcm reprogrammed with more timing then it will ping if you put regular 87 in it.
