Rebuild Parts List & Questions

Ok heres my list, I ok'd it with my wife if I get a part time job to cover it LOL but thats ok with me.

Summit Engine kit w/forged pistons 10.4:1 $570
30# SVO Injectors $250
58mm Throttle Body $300
Summit EWP $160
Timing Set?? I don't know what to get since the EWP
Roller Rockers (can I use gen 1 roller rockers??) $200??
Pushrods $??
PaceSetter LTs $285
Summit X-Pipe $85
Magnaflow 4x9s $165 (both)
3000 Stall $450
3.73 Gears $150
Lifters $200??
And I'm thinking of doing the LE1 since I don't have another $500 to do the LE2 and its not really worth it for 20-30 hp IMO $1200

Tune (MadZ28) $125
Then the actual machining which I'm having done locally and I'm getting a quote tomorrow.

Also how should I go about getting the intake ported? and did I forget anything and what? How do you think this motor will run and how reliable?

I'm trying to do everything on a budget of $5000, but I'm sure that won't last long since I think I have about $4000 just in parts, but I'm going to try to get some of them used to save some cash. My motor will probably be coming out this weekend and I'll figure out what I broke.

Also what GEN1 parts can I use on the LT1? Can I use a gen1 timing chain since I'm eliminating the wp drive? I'm also going to use the stock crank and rods

Ask Lloyd Elliot about that.

You can use a gen1 timing chain but you might need to clearance the timing cover. You can use gen 1 crank gen 1 rods and gen 1 pistons. The crank has to be a 1 peice seal though to work. If using stock rods be sure to get new studs and fully have them reconditioned, this might include inspecting polishing shot peening and potentially replacing one or two if they were damaged/bent.

I actually think I broke a rod but I'm not positive, and I was planning on buying a set of chevy pink rods with arp fasteners from my brother since I can probably get them for $50 and they only have 500 miles on them but they are for a gen1 and wasn't sure if I could use them. And I was going to have my crank polished and reuse it if its still ok. How much clearencing of the timing cover for a double roller timing chain?

Thanks for the reply

the timing chain needs to be for a factory roller cam engine....87-up
not much clearancing needs to be done....I have done a few with a 4" grinder

Why do you have to get the parts time job? I would make her get one......
Good luck with it...be preparred for the total of the maching shop....and always figure it so you have a 25% reserve....never know what you may run into

Well she already has a full time job and I have a good paying full time job, but I have a problem with sending money LOL and I want to get this done before it gets nice and everyone else has their cars out and I'm still saving for parts. I'm just going to put most of the big stuff on the credit card and pay that off with the part time job. I know its not the best way, but I don't want the car to end up sitting and me getting sick of it and then just sell it as it sits.

On another note I'm going to buy a set of ported heads from a guy I know that are comparable to the LE3s with a comp cam 306 and a new BMR torque arm for $500. I can't really go wrong there and I know the parts are good.

The shop I'm taking the block to does really good work and they are really reasonable, I'll post what I find out later today from them.
