Remember what 97WS6SCharged said about offset front/rear sizes. You won't be able to rotate them, and will spend money on tires more often than if you went with the same size all the way around. If you can afford that, then more power to ya.

I've wondered the same thing about 17x11 vs 17x9.5's. Since there is no rotation of the tires, wouldnt the fronts last longer than the rears, even without doing burnouts, because of the RWD? Which is TRULY better for rain traction? Which would be better for snow?

If you honestly want the car to perform better than a 9.5 inch tire is more than wide enough.. what's key is the tire compound.. drag radials will do wonders.

If you really want an optimum setup I'd stick with 16 inch even.. or maybe downsize to 15. If you want the car to handle though and hook I think 16's are a perfect compromise.

You can rotate the tires, the rims are better protected from road hazards, ride is smoother, straightline traction is as good or better, rotational weight is far less, and tires are much cheaper. What more do you want?

Of course, most people here will probably shoot me for saying 16x8 or 16x9 is ideal.. for no other reason than for looks.. but I say this is a muscle car that's mean't to have some rubber to burn.. no rubber bands on my car

As others have said, it all depends on what you want and what you expect from your car. No doubt 315's look cool but I certainly wouldn't say they're in any way practical or worthwhile for anything more than just looks.

My .02

I put my 315's on my9.5 inch rim w/ no problem, alot of brands are almost to narrow for an 11 inch rim and look funny. nitto 315 aren't much wider than bfg d.r. 275. I run sumitomo and got -em pretty cheap at tire rack..

I ran 315 nittos for almost a year. They were direct bolt on with a pair of weld wheels, and actually weighed less stock. I did lose a mpg or two with them, and it was a daily driver (80 miles/day). The only reason I sold them was because I went with 15" telstars with skinnies up front. I can tell you this though, the 315's on 17" wheels hooked so much better than these 275's on 15" wheels (both sets of tires being nitto drag radials). I put ~30k miles on my car each year and can get 15k out of a set of nittos. So thats two sets I have to buy each year compared to one set of non drag radial tires. I'd rather spend the extra $375/yr to have drag radials. Also have to remember that most of the 17x11 wheels are very heavy. IMO though, get them.

I have found that not every tire shop can mount or dis-mount tires less than 40 series do to machine limitations. My concern was being able to get a flat repair on a trip. So I just stuck with 9.5's. I love the S@#$ out of my BFG G-Force TA's

Oh and chrome rims clean up real easy too. I never had them until recently.

If you were to actually drive your car around without peeling out all the time, your fronts will wear out before the rears. Look at ANY average joe car, where the idiot doesn't ever rotate their tires and see which ones are more worn.

So I would have to buy the fronts before rears, right? Still wondering about my questions on wet and snow traction, though, anyone have a reply?

What? the sidewall on a 315/35/17 is exactly the same height as a 275/40/17. The second number is in direct relation to the first number.

That was the reason you stayed with 9.5s huh? Jeez.

to be mathmatical about driving in rain or snow.

The wider the tire, the weight on each wheel is the same but its distributed much better, giving u less weight per square inch of contact w/ the ground. that less weight will in turn be unable to push as mush water out from underneath the tire.

using tread designs it is possible to make some tires more accomidating to rain and snow, but it probably means there is less tread in contact w/ the ground making for a higher wear rate.

but if ur not gonna be driving in the rain u dont need to worry about this stuff
