Rear oil pan Baffle

Im getting ready to install a rear oil pan baffle in my car to attempt to fix a high RPM cavitation issue.

Milodon says simply to install between the pump and the rear cap and trim to fit.

1.) Is it really that simple? No gaskets/RTV between the cap/baffle/pump? Bare metal to metal and bolt it on?

2.) How close should the trim to fit be?

Thank you!

Well the original mounting is metal to metal.
It's really that simple and the fit should be real close.
I used a couple but decided it was to high in the pan to do the most good so I weld a plate just a little higher than oil level and make it clear the pickup. Make it the full width of the pan and as far forward as posible to not hit the pickup and give ya a fit installing the pan. I also angle the plate down a little.
Do you have the factory baffle in it?

Re: Rear oil pan Baffle

With the pan off put 4 quarts of water in it and mark it. Then ya can figure where the baffle needs to go.

Larry-

No rear baffle, its a milodon stroker 7qt low profile pan. I let everyone know how it works.

I had this problem when I first built the motor and you helped me a ton with it. Now after the SR cam, I guess it revs that much faster and its suddenly appeared again

Thanks again.

Ya can put the amount of oil that belongs in it and then mark it. It definately needs something to keep the oil from climbing the back of the pan.

The 1.35 60' times will do it.

Re: Rear oil pan Baffle

UPDATE:
Dropped the k member today and pulled the pan. Pickup was set correctly. I decided to pull the pump off and check it out. Eeek. The gears had some nasty wear patterns and chips in the gears. Looks like it ate some metal (this is more or less a new motor). Didnt see anything in the pan. I grabbed a High pressure pump from the parts store, and installed the rear pan baffle.....

AND I HAVE PRESSURE!!!

Do you angle it down in the front or back?

I angle it down in the front about 1/8-1/4".

Re: Rear oil pan Baffle

Nice. My miloden trim to fit baffle took a ton of trimming. Honestly a sheet of 16 gauge metal would have been just as easy to fit between the pump.

Good deal.

Re: Rear oil pan Baffle

I ended up doing a good bit of chopping too. I have a studded bottom end, so I had to trim around that and a good amount to get it to fit the back of the pan. About the only place it fit was for the crank rotating.
