Re: rear mount distributor
I think that msd or mallory makes a very flat distributer that would fit easier under the cowl of our cars. That is if clearance would be and issue. If no i like mallory's HEI..its only like 150 bucks and works great...i love hei distributers. Look in a summit mag...i cant seem to find mine.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I am wondering if you could use a distributor off a
L31 vortec engine. This has the crab type cap with the plug wires horizontal to the engine. The reason I am interested is I am thinking of putting a lt1 in my 1999 GMC Yukon, ditching the opti and using the distributor from the vortec. since I want to 4 wheel. But this distributor should work in a f body as well. Will probably have to get creative with the egr valve though.
Interested and looking for more info

I think as long as youhave room and its for an sbc you can use it. All our block are is a 327 just modified differently. SHould be ableto use any distributor we want. At least that what I'm thinking.

there are actually a few different ways you can go with this. A few people send the intakes off and get a hole drilled in the back of the intake. And then of course you would take out the oil pump drive because the end of the distributor has your gear on there.
or you can go the way I'm going and go all carb. everyone will say its stupid and pointless and its bad gas mileage and yada yada yada. For me though, a very big cam has bad gas mileage. Then my tuners can even get the car to run the way I want it to. Its just easier for me and my friends to throw it on the dyno and change jets and tune the motor that way. But if you want to go the carb way, you need an afpr, carb, intake you want to get (might need machining, depends on what intake you want), and then the distributor. Of course your going to need small little things here and there as well.
