Rear main seal. Why does a gasket come with it?

i picked up a felpro rear main seal. a gasket came with it.. It looks like its suppose to fit against the block and the circular bracket that bolts to the block. But its not sealing anything? just sitting up against the side of the block..

Does anyone know why this gasket came with the rear main seal?

You have the seal, and the seal housing. The gasket is an oil seal that seals around the four bolts for the housing from leaking any oil.

ah ok.. i didnt know those bolts were exposed to oil.. now i guess it'd be a good idea to find the two bolts I never recieved back.. Do u know what the bolt sizes are by chance on the rear main.. THere are 2 sizes.. the bigger one and the smaller bolts.. I missing the big ones.

AFAIK they're all the same size. There should be four bolts, and one nut.

Okay. The two outer bolts are longer by a few MM. The middle bolts yuo have, just find some the same thread that are a few MM longer, the outer ones are the same amount longer as the RMS housing is thicker at that point. Measure if you need to.

heads up.. I looked at the block and there are no oil passages to the two top bolt holes.. and further more there are no threads in them. So this means that they are nothing.. Only 2 bolts hold in that round bracket.
I was not able to see if the two bottom bolts extended to inside the engine but i find it hard to believe that they would.. still doesnt make any sense why that gaskets in there.

That may be the case, that the gasket's only there to prevent metal to metal contact. Either way, it belongs there.
