Rear main seal spacer???

I have heard about some type of spacer people use to put behind their rear main seal to make up for the wear on the crank. My rear main has been leaking since Ive owned my car and I have already replaced it but it still leaks. I am hoping that this might fix my problem. Can someone please tell me the dimensions of this spacer (inner/outer diameter, thickness) so i can go ahead and make one before I tear the car apart? I am planning on doing it this weekend since I will already be swapping K members and putting in new motor mounts, and possibly a new clutch since I will be pulling the trans anyway.

I know that you can buy them, but if it is basically just a washer, I can make one myself in about 15 minutes on the lathe and not have to worry about shipping and waiting and paying for something that I could do myself.

I am a pretty good machinist, and if I can't do it I'm sure as hell one of my fellow co workers could, so could someone please just tell me the dimensions like I asked for.

What you are referring to is called a speedy sleeve. I don't know the dimensions so I can't help you there. Basically a thin sleeve that covers up the groove that the seal wears into the crankshaft.

They are very thin so machining one would be extremely difficult. As mentioned above, take a look at the ones offered by Fel-Pro. The cost of a seal kit with a sleeve would probably be much less that the hassle of trying to make one yourself. Mine came with an installer similar in size to a tuna can so it could be pressed/hammered on easily. The sleeve itself will stretch a fair amount when installed. If the wear groove is very pronounced, it can still be seen through the sleeve after installation (the sleeve is that thin) but the diameter increase will let the seal do its job better. Be advised that the fingers on the aluminum seal retainer will need to be relieved slightly to clear the the sleeve.
