Wink Re: Rear Main Seal Leaking

Hey, Great site. I have the tranny pulled, the flywheel off and degreased the backside of the motor, heads and itake. Intake is still leak free ( repaired it last summer). Once everything was clean and dry I fired it up and let it come up to temp. The oil is not coming from the main itself but from the rear of the pan gasket where it runs between the pan and rearmain housing. This is the 3rd pan gasket on this engine in 2 years. The owner before me had it replaced twice. The second time under warranty. I replaced it last summer because of leaks toward the rear. Im gonna drop it one more time and use some goo this time. I was told not to the last time. Oh Well, Its just something to do on my weekend off!!

Re: Rear Main Seal Leaking

Ed, what were the symptoms of this oil leak? IE exactly where was oil being thrown under the car? Thanks.

Re: Rear Main Seal Leaking

Oil dripping out of rear oil pan area, getting into the clutch area. I dropped the pan, cleaned all parts, installed new rear main seal and gasket, cleaned pan surfaces, and installed pan gasket. I hope this does it.
