Where to buy a 383 shortblock?

I'm looking for suggestions.

I'm considering going with a stroked bottom end.
The key is finding a good engine builder or reseller (local or otherwise)

It's a street car, I'm thinking a 383 would work best for me.
I'm going to install an LE heads and cam setup on top of it.

The car is a 93 Firehawk (LT1)

Oh god yea dude! Nick built my motor and I love it! Between him and Lloyd specing my motor out... I couldn't happier! I drive the car everyday and it dynoed 430/415! Nick is not expensive at all either... awesome dude.

You couldn't imagine what Nick had to put with between and the local shop that put my motor in. Nick went through hell and back! He stayed with me the entire time and we still talk to this day! VRE Gets A++ dude... I can't wait to send my entire car there for them to plumb my Direct Port and dyno tune that monster. I'm expecting 700rwhp and 800rwtq on my daily driver!

Nick or Eric could help you out man... I love those guys.

I saw a few threads in the GP section, I'm very impressed with the feedback people give for Victory. That's exactly the kind of shop I want to deal with.

I'd go with a 355 from VRE on LT1 castings, but I'm biased

You have me curious Javier, what are the advantages of a 355?
I see a lot of people running those around here.

I read an article on Golen. I forget the details now, but I remember that they went to a great deal of effort on the block prep and assembly... lots of attention to detail.

I remember specifically filing that away in my memory and making amental note that the next time I needed to buy a complete short block, long block or turnkey, that I was going to get it from Golen.

Peak Hp wont be that much diffrent between a 383 and a 355. The Hp under peak will be higher with that attibutiated to the higher tq. A 355 on stock ported heads will peak around 6700 where a 383 will peak around 6100-6300. cant go wrong with either one. And agree vre's prices seem to be alot better.

Another vote for Golen here. Thats who built my 383. Chad is a great dude and I can't tell you enough how kick *** the customer service is. He always responded quick to emails, and dropped what he was doing whenever I called no matter how busy he was. He's really not happy if your not happy either. Best part is he's willing to work with you in getting the right setup and even if you have parts you want to get yourself, you can even ship them to him and the'll put them on, or you can do it yourself. Great group over there.

Re: Where to buy a 383 shortblock?

Thanks for the kudos everybody. At Victory Racing we are customers at heart, both Eric and I have been in the drivers seat and know what a pain it is too deal with poor customer service and wishy washy tech info. Dispelling those mis-truths is the heart and soul of VRE. Our hearts beat horsepower 23hrs a day, ya gotta sleep sometime')

In all seriousness, I invite any and all customers to call us or e-mail Eric or myself about any issue you are having. I'm sure if asked many people on this very board will tell you about tech issues we have helped remedy, without a sale mind you. As I say, we are customers at heart ourselves. At Victory Racing, the customer is the top priority and thats not just talk, we walk the walk as well.
