Rear main seal driving me CRAZY!
Rear main seal driving me CRAZY!
So I've always had a leaky rear main. Absolutely positive that's what it is. Nothing else is leaking. Oil is thrown onto the pass side header at the exact line where the bellhousing meets the block. Throws it down the passenger side exhaust and undercarriage but not the drivers side. Oil drains down the converter cover and comes out of the little hole.
So I decided to replace it. Well, I just got done putting the tranny back in for the 3rd time in two weeks (thats how many times I've replaced the rear main) to no avail. Bastard leaks worse than ever. First time I just drove the seal on. Second time I used a small screwdriver to make sure the lips were seated corrected. Third time I lowered the oilpan and took the RMS housing off and drove the seal in, then slid it back on the crank and bolted everything back up. I'm at a loss. The crank has a SLIGHT SLIGHT groove that you can only see with your eye but cannot catch a nail on it or feel it. Should I still go ahead and sleeve it? How do I go about doing this?
Any comments are appreciated as I am at a loss.

Re: Rear main seal driving me CRAZY!
Could be the oil pan gasket too? I replaced my rear main seal a couple years back thinking it was that but it turns out it was my oil pan gasket.
I think (fortunately) my new oil pan and gasket is not leaking.

Also, you could peek up at where the oil pan gasket meets and you could see oil squeezing out of it.
I had better luck with the OEM gasket than the blue felpro gasket.

There looked to be some oil possibly squeezing out but I thought it was just where it was leaking down off the RMS. There definetely looked to be oil at the bottom of the RMS every time I pulled off the flexplate.
I need to go see if anybody has that UV dye and solve this once and for all.
