Really odd problem...

So, now that I fixed my burnt plug wire, last night I was driving around and the car starts to sputter again. But this time it feels like multiple missfires, not just one. Wires are fine, so I'm thinkin opti or coil.

Yeah, so I'm still driving, it's sputtering and backfiring, shaking a tad w/ the misfires... the SES light comes on.... and everything goes back to normal. Misfires stop, everything is fine. Light goes off a few minutes later... the misfires start back up. This cycle repeats every so often.

I don't get it... the SES light comes on and everything starts working fine, goes off and it starts misfiring! WTF?! I don't understand how it could be the opti or coil or whatever if it starts working just fine when the light comes on.

Please, someone shed some light on this, I'm stumped.

Could definitly be the opti. If I am correct when an opti is going, it WILL throw a code and u will get an SES light. Guys? Anyone wanna back me up on this. I would definitly start with easy stuff first, like coil :-)

Heh, ya, I'm definitely thinking opti...

I'm just really curious as to why it stops misfiring whenever the SES light is on?! lol.....

Scan it and stop guessing. Don't forget things change when codes come up. Just a dumb example but if the MAF signal goes south, the PCM goes into Speed/density mode. So don't go guessing and swapping out things just cause you think something might be wrong. While your scanning, check the sensor inputs. Pull the vac line off the EGR and plug it and take it for a ride.
