Re: Really Bad Shaking Idle Problem???

I have the same problem as you...mine doesnt shake bad enough to shut off the car, but it shakes at idle as well as driving...heres what I replaced...

New IAC(which helped the underlying dropping RPM problem I had..but the shake is still there)
Opti
Coil
Plugs/HALF THE WIRES...Im thinking this is my problem, I never got around to changing all of them...Im going to do this next...
Cleaned MAF/TB

Im in the process of readjusting all of the Rockerarms to Zero lash...a while ago a few of my rocker arms loosened up, so I think some of them are off. I hope that'll fix the problem, if not...then im off to the wires.

Re: Really Bad Shaking Idle Problem???

Pull all your plugs and check the gap. If ya got exotic metal plugs the tip on one of them may have come off and there is too much gap to fire.
Set them on .035 before ya put them back. That will make it easier to fire and eliminate the plugs as a cause.

Re: Really Bad Shaking Idle Problem???

Check your plug wires on the passenger side near the ac compressor. Best to check at night, witha spray bottle full of water. Soak down the plug wires and watch for fireworks, not the ones in the sky, the ones under your hood. Id be willing to bet one has touched the exhaust or gotten too close and melted. Been there, done that.

.035 makes it easier for the opti to fire them.

The .050 plug gap was put there for idle emissions.
The plug gap IS resistance in the system and the more the resistance the harder it is to fire. Your wires, and plugs already have a resistor built in and when an opti gets a little weak it won't fire the BIG gap like it should causing the spark to back up in the opti and causing carbon tracking and ruining it.
The only thing a BIG gap does is that it is good for emissions and sells opti's and tune ups.

Re: Really Bad Shaking Idle Problem???

I had the problem you describe and I traced it down to a missing platinum electrode on the ground side of the #6 plug. Put back in an old plug and the problem went away completely.
