take it from me, dont buy a crappy one that says it can do it because it cant. I just dropped about 280 on one from autoxray. im very pleased, it can scan GM, Ford and Chrysler OBD 1 codes, along with OBD 2 codes.

You can check for current codes and codes held in the history. it also allows you to see operational data as well. Good investment IMO

If you post your region you might find someone nearby willing to pull codes for you.

The paper clip trick doesn't work. You'll need some type of scanner. I can't believe there aren't any shops in your area with OBD-I scanning capabilities. Does everyone drive 95 and newer cars out there?

no, which makes it odd. I even called autozone, they can only do 96+

On OBDII scan tool or code reader will not read OBDI. And vice-versa. You'll need the proper tools, either OBDI or OBDII, or tools that will do both.

If you have an OBDI scan tool, but it has the wrong connector, shoebox has how to use jumpers on his site.

Just buy a Parallel to ALDL cable, that is if you have a laptop. There is free software for reading codes along with lots of other information, and they can also clear codes.
