Question Help a fellow CZ28'er out......please read.

......and for once....it's not me.

Okay, this is going to sound a little weird but in the interest of possibly saving someone's brand new engine buildup.... ....here goes.

I was on this website yesterday, just surfing around, not logged in, just looking for interesting topics while I had a few minutes to kill before going out to dinner. Somewhere on here(???) I came across a photo of a new LT1 shortblock buildup which had the two(2) valve relief type pistons installed incorrectly.

This photo showed the shortblock on an engine stand, (without the heads on, of course), and the two(2) valve relief pistons, had been installed.....with the valve reliefs down towards the outside of the engine block, (i.e. NOT towards the intake valley!!!). I immediately knew this was WRONG but, now, being both somewhat late for dinner as well as not being logged in at the time.......I told myself I'd make a post on this later, to bring this to the builders attention.

Well, long story made short.......... later turned into today, and for the life of me I now cannot find that post.

Has anyone else on here seen this post??? Even though I'm not going to benefit from this.....I would sure hate to see a fellow CZ28'er trash a completely new engine because he installed his pistons upside down.

If anyone out there also wants to help, I'm sure at least one person out there is going to appreciate it! Thanks!

I recal the post that had engine pics in it [nice parts too! as I recall] a crank in the box on a desk, pistons, shortblock, etc.. it appears to have been removed ,I can't find it either.. I didn't notice of what you speak, but I do recall the post..

Here's the link to the post with the parts laid out on a desk
<http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=517345>.

Obviously, this is not the post with an assembled short block but I have seen that mistake made before.

Thumbs up

Well, 129 "views" of this post to date......and no one else can find that photo/post either???

Cnorton and Mtrhds94Z, you are both right, that it not the post I originally saw. The photo I did see was one of an assembled shortblock, without heads, still bolted to an engine stand.

Alright, I've tried to do my "good deed for the day" on this. If anyone reading this post knows of someone currently building a new LT1 shortblock using pistons with only two(2) valve reliefs per piston........please tell them that the pistons need to be installed with the valve reliefs closest to the intake/lifter valley, NOT toward the outside of the engine block!

Thanks to all who replied and viewed.

I couldn't find it either. Maybe you have the page in your browser history, view by order visited and try to narrow it down?

Unhappy

A great idea, Jeff, .....only I have my browser settings set to store pages in "History" for only 1 day. I actually saw the original post on Thursday afternoon, 04/26/07.

Compstall, look for that "Thrashed My Brand New Motor" post coming to a web site near you soon???

You sure that post wasn't on ls1tech.com? In the LT1-LT4 section? I have seen 3 or 4 posts as of late in that section with pics as you described....BTW thanks for the heads up...but I didn't post any pics of my shortblock.

Yeah that is my post with just the parts. I remember seeing the post, but it seemed like the guy was dealing with the outcome of the pistons being in incorectly by a builder.
