Re-calibrating the MAF...

Some have spoke about re-calibrating their MAF, is this important, why should you do it and how do you do it?

Thanks

It is not done in the MAF itself, it is rather done in the tables in the pcm software that convert the mhz frequency to Air Flow Grams Per Second information the pcm can use.

Exactly. Many ideas and arguments on it. In the old days it was evil to touch it at all...untill Someone pointed GM was doing it

If you don't modify the MAF then you pretty much don't need to recalibrate it.

I think some confusion is introduced because many other applications are MUCH harder to get into the pcm than the LT1 and in some instances aftermarket recalibrated MAFs are a useful tuning tool.

The LT1 though is probably the cheapest and easiest pcm to get into, the 94-5s anyway and are VERY flexible so we do not have to resort to the trickery other need to make the computer run a modified engine.

I have a obd2 97 pcm with a Granitelli MAF. I am FI, so, I was getting a rich AFR in closed loop mode. Could not live with that. I droped the stock cal curve 2% and set the high threshold frequency to max output (62+ Hz), and, allowed BLM updates over 60kpa manf pressure. I had the help of a Dynojet WB O2 which was a critical tool as all changes were made relitive to the afr. It now runs 14.7:1 afr in part throttle closed loop mode. I had to do this to get low speed drivability. The 95 to 97 type PCM appears to have a very slow response to MAF frequency change with high air flow changes thru the MAF sensor in closed loop mode. I hope this helps. B.

The Granatelli is a problem, bet you get equal to better results with a stocker.

In these two comprehensive posts, I discuss your exact question in complete detail...probably more than you need to know.

I used MAF calibration to dial in my PE mode tuning. If you have not calibrated, you may or may not be on with your current MAF calibration.

Thanks for the input, however this is clearly way over my head. I would assume hat this is something that an not be addressed in a mail order tune.

You are correct. Sorry and good luck. Just tune the old fashion way of making mods to the MAF tables down low for part throttle. You generally should be OK. It is only people like me that were freaky about getting my PE AFR on that it matters.
