Random missfires after header install
Well i finally got my headers done, i was waiting for parts
well ive been gettign these randommissfires and keep fouling plugs,
i figured i burnt a wire
had a Tech 2 hooked up to it , said my whole left bank was misfiring , checked and rechecked the order and it was correct, i took out the plugs and replaced them with new plugs and did the OTVC wires
after that the car idled fine , took it around the block for a few minutes, say 10 minutes car ran fine but ran rearlly rich
came back and went for another ride , and car just started stumblin like crazy
ive changed plugs and wires liek 3 times soo that is not my problem
02 sensors have about 77k on them but no code if the are bad
opti was replaced last year and so were the ICM and coil
seems like im not getting spark or im just dumping fuel into teh cylinders
can anyone pleease help me out
thanks
Bobby

Re: Random missfires after header install
there are a couple possibilities here.
#1 of course, plug wires, but if you are sure you got those right I'll move on.
#2 ICM ground the grounding post next to the ICM, makle sure the bolt is tight and that that the wire hasn't broken off of the eyelet.
#3 incorectly routed vacuum lines, double check those
#4 exhaust leaks did you get long tubes or shorties? did you block off the EGR or connect it to the EGR tube? did you re-attach or remove AIR lines? check for leaks.
#5 there is also a ground near the starter, did you put that back on?
Did you re-attach all sensors?
check
Intake Air Temp
Engine Coolant Temp (on cyl head)
Manifold Absolute Pressure
did you do any other mods at the same time?

#1 yes they are correct
#2 i do remember seeing this ground and i will check it again and again
#3 i olny removed teh vaccum line ot teh master that is on
#4 air and EGr are hooked up, what would a leak at the header do?
#5 ill make sure i check those again ,i did have the starter on and off about a million time,
all sensors are back on
Tech 2 said:
IAC was close to 89* on a decently warm day
ECT was working correctly even tho we did knock it off
MAP i am not sure
like i said it seems my misfires are only on the left bank ,
i did look at the opti , it did seem like the left bank was wet at one point but was dry ,would that mess with just the left bank or the enginer?
the only codes i get right now are random missfires
i also do not have rear 02 sims but no light as of yet , would that put my ca in some kind of limp mode and cause it to dump fuel ?
thanks
bobby
one other thing
anybody know how to test a coil and ICM , both are fairly new parts so i really dont think that is my problem
the only thing that catches my eye is its the whole left bank

Re: Random missfires after header install
left bank was drawing 50% more fuel (90milivolts-200)and was running at a very low milivolts and what i think was fouling plugs and the right bank was fine ,
well i switched the 02s and let the car warm up a little and the right side (good side) instantly started drawing 50% more fuel, while the left side tryed taking away 24% fuel prolly cuz the plugs are fouled,
do u think its safe to assume my 02 is bad

I think your little experiment of swapping the O2's proved at least one is bad. Save some money and buy these OEM units.

Not having the rear O2's connected will only set the SES but if you don't have them in, that's a different story. Be sure the hole is plugged otherwise you will leak air. As Eff asked, if you are leaking air, that can throw off the readings of the O2's. However, you did prove that swapping from side to side caused the problem to travel with the unit.
