I actually did it once on the v6 before I knew how to bleed the pressure beyond removing the gas cap, on a full tank of gas, which I have now. It didn't spray at me, but it poured out so I had to be really quick.

I just tested the opti with my dad by removing one of the wires still connected to the opti, putting it to ground and cranking it to see spark....no spark. I'm not familiar with the opti as of yet....If I buy an ACdelco unit, does it come with a cap and rotor too, if not, do I need to get new ones? I'm going to start by replacing the coil first, though.

Oh and with scanners, I know it looks as if it covers my car, but I've been fooled before....is this right?

Yes, that will cover your car, but may not display all (or most of) the things that a scanner would. It is a code reader. A real scanner is more cost effective.

Ok, replaced the coil with MSD blaster coil, and still no start. Two things, though:

1. I discovered that a gold shoelace like ground wire had severed and that the other wires that go between the nut and bolt that bolt up to the block were weak, so I redid those with standard electrical connectors.

2. On the dual connector at the bottom, the male wire ends with two prongs on each, the one of the left only has one prong. I see no sign of it stuck in the old coil or anywhere, it must have broken off?

Could this cause and continue to cause no start as described in point no. 2?

The one prong side is normal on early LT1 cars. One connecter has two terminals, the other is one terminal.

Im pretty sure the severed ground is a chassis ground, so i would replace that before i bought any parts.

Why would I need to replace it, can't I just recrimp the wires and slide them back on the bolt head with new washer-style electrical connectors? because that's what I did.

I still need to know, when I buy an ACdelco opti, does it come with the cap and rotor?

When I bought my "Gm performance parts opti" (stock delco I am guessing) It cam with cap and rotor, I think all opti's do, I asked this very same question on here when I went to buy mine.

AC-Delco optis are complete and ready to bolt on.

The braided ground strap from the coil stud to the chassis should be in place (or a suitable replacement made).

I just scanned it with an autoXray and it told me "no trouble codes found", even though I have the "check gauges" and Service Engine Soon" lights.

I'm going ahead and changing the opti (acdelco)
