However look how much higher the scoops are on the cars you mention than on the SS setup. Most of the uselessness of the SS style ram air comes from the fact that the scoop sits extremely low on the hood so airflow passes over the scoop making it a dead spot for "ram air".
Don't think anyone is promoting the SS scoop. A well designed Ram Air system does work. No one said the SS was well designed but with a little effort it could be made to work. But never as well as the large scoopes found on true race cars.

I'll keep my WS6 ram air even if its worse. At least I can clean the filter without jacking up the damn car. How many CAI guys have seen how dirty their filters are? With the baffles out of the hood its straight into the intake..........can't get much better than that.

WOW!! What in the world are you guys thinking about or smoking??
I am simply talking about your engine running cooler because of the fan. It would be the same difference between your car moving and your car sitting still.

When we dyno test different devices or are tuning, the water temp is exactly the same for every run (165-170). Don't bother to measure the temp of the intake itself; but if it feels too hot, we'll let it sit till you can comfortably put your hand on it to make every run as consistant as possible and remove any heat soak issues. With my current sheetmetal intake we observe only the rear section retaining heat as it appears air being consumed by the intake keeps the front area reasonably cool.

A fan is always setup directly in front of the radiator to replicate moving air into the radiator keeping the water temp more consistent. In this case a second fan was placed directly in front of a section of intake to replicate fast moving air directly into it in an attempt to see if there were any gains with a sealed system.

With the second fan blowing directly into the intake the car picked up about 14 hp. Remove it and it goes away even though nothing else has changed.

I have one I'll let you have cheap. I bought it used and it is from a Pontiac, so it just doesn't look right to advertise Pontiac under the hood of a Z28. Plus, I'm getting everything all purty and plan to get a brand new unit. Oh, also, it seems to "snag" on my Ultra Z hood and it kinda pulls the 2 piece casing apart whenever I open the hood.

As for the functionality as compared to CAI or SS hoods, I really can't compare. It just seems to me that even if you're not getting more air, it is possibly moving ever so slightly better due to the straight through design. You know, like straight through mufflers? Only on the opposite end of the engine.
