Racetronix pump and fuel pressure problem

I installed my new racetronix pump today. Before I did I checked my fuel pressure and it held 40psi with the key off. After the pump install I noticed its not holding pressure with the key off. Its dropping off in a few sec. Now the clamp that came with the racetronix pump didnt work so well. I tightened it up and it broke. It just wouldnt get tight on the metal tube so i tightened some more and woops... broke the clamp. I replaced it and added a second clamp to the hose and away I went. I added the second clamp just to be sure. Now everything is back together and the fuel pressure just drops off. after I turn the key on. I love the pump and kit. The loss of pressure will not hurt performance when its running, I'm just wondering if its me or maybe the pump.

Now I might have missed something here. The kit came with an O ring but I didnt use it. I never figured out where it was supposed to go. Its a pretty straight forward swap, out with the old and in with the new. glue on the lid to the bucket, change a few connections and clamp down the new hose. Pop on the new filter and back into teh tank we go. Where was that black O ring supposed to go?

It still runs fine and starts ok, but I'll probably pull the pump out again next weekend to make sure everything is where its supposed to be.

You left the "fuel pressure rataining o-ring" off?

Seriously, I'm curious about this one myself.

Yup, I just put mine in and had that o-ring left over. The only place in the instructions that mentioned an o-ring was on the bottom of the pump where it seats in the bucket and the pump already had one on it. Mine does hold pressure after key off though. I've still got some messing to do with the AFPR to get the FP right.

I left my o-ring off too. Seems to work fine though.

ok, so I'm not the only one who had "extra" parts. I thought that the O ring was for the bottom of the pump also but it alreay had one on there. The pump should hold pressure once the system is primed. I'm begining to wonder if the check ball in the pump is hung up...

The o-ring is a spare as some people have managed to damage the one on the pump during installation.

The plastic hose is meant to go on the black push-lock fitting not directly on the metal hose.

As long as the pressure comes up quickly when the key is put in the ignition position and the motor starts quickly all is OK.

Ah, I understand now. I was going to give TR and/or you an email tomorrow about it. I'm pretty sure thats where my problem is then. Its probably leaking. Thanks for the response on a Sunday night, I'll pull it back out tomorrow night and put the hose in the right spot.

Thank god for access holes, an all day job becomes a 30 min swap.

The flex tube is sized to fit the end of the push-lock fitting.

Maybe your Fuel pressure regulator took a dump, easy to check, unhook the return line after you shut off the car & see if fuel comes out of it, if it does, the regulator is toast.

Also, your bucket has a valve on the bottom where it draws the fuel from, the flapper valve might have gotten stuck or broke off maybe ?

Anyways, I just put the harness on my car without the pump & it solved all my fuel problems

Thanx RaceTronix!

I wish I would have known that. I did the same thing (two clamps on the metal tube) and my car won't hold pressure with the engine off for a while.

The old tube looked like it was permanently on the push-lock fitting. Do you just pull it off and slide on the new one?

Make a slit with a utility knife in the old flex tube to get it off of the black push-lock fitting.

SEE THIS IS WHY YOU NEED TO SUPPLY INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW I KNOW WHY MY HARD STARTING SYMPTOMS HAVENT BEEN SOLVED WITH THE NEW PUMP KIT I took off the fuel rail today to check for a leaky injector. Nope all good, pulled the vacum line off the fuel pressure regulator, nope dry. I was beginning to think I would never get this problem solved.

All I can do is assume. From what I understand there is only a few things that can cause extended cranking due to fuel pressure bleeding off. the pump the regulator the injectors or the in line fuel filter. Also a leak some where in the lines wich I would smell or see. Am I missing anything? Seems quite a few people have had problems with installing the kit, unsure of the details. I spent a week researching before I ordered the pump on the install , found a factory pump install, it was all I could come up with, wich only worked for a few parts of the install. Why don't you supply one with the pump ? It would save dumb people like me a lot of problems. I know you give them out to people through email on request. I just asked for mine a day late.

Also I wish I would have printed that picture out when I did the install that would have helped me quite a bit as well.
