Quieter after header install?

I may be wrong, but I thought that installing headers on my car would make it louder. I just installed a set of Edelbrock TES shorty headers and found quite the contrary. I do not have a cat converter and I have a flowmaster muffler with turndown tips which makes the pipe after the muffler about 8-10" long max.

My car now idles quieter but gets loud as hell WOT.

I confer. My car with the cat idled quieter with the headers. Without the cat at the track it idles louder.

anyone else have this happen? or maybe know why? It's not really a pressing issue, I'm just curious as to why this happened, accoustically I wouldn't find this realistic. Now I think I might want to make it idle even quieter (if possible) to add to the "there's no way that thing runs xx.xx @ xxx mph" factor, aka people thinking it is slow because it sounds like it stock hehe.
