In my opinion get a set of Drag Radials. They have probably been one of the best mods for about $300 bucks.

You can also get Lower control arms. They help out a lot and aren't too expensive. Go to www.ls1speed.com They have great prices and ship fast.

Do a TB bypass. It's free and helps a little.

One of the best mods I've done was to put on SLP's cai, air foil, and tb coolant bypass. I have done alot of little mods, but for under 400 those would be my first choices. I also have a 97 and love the simple fact that is so fun to drive. You can email me if you would any more ideas.

Car a4? or manual?

First mods usually Cold Air intake, less you have an SS.

for hte cold air intake, you can do it yourself and save a bit of money.

before doing major mods, or any mods, make sure all of hte maintenance is done anyhow, such as oil changes, breaks, etc.

check transmission mount for cracks and replace.

plugs/wires, etc.

intake and catback will put you right around 400. THen after that if your are a 6spd you could go with a short shifter. those three would be a good start.

Thats not the order we all do it in . I bought my car with a bad motor. I rebuilt it with freshened heads, a 224/230 cam, forged pistons, eagle rods, LT headers, offroad y-pipe, tuned PCM and I rebuilt the tranny and put in a 2500 stall converter. After all of that I was pretty broke so I had to keep the stock air intake . I just got a CAI about 2 weeks ago after driving it like that for 4 months. It made a HUGE difference on a car with that many mods.

Back on the topic, everything here has been good advice so far. make sure you get any maintenance done first. Then a CAI is a good first mod. A good sounding catback makes the car more fun to drive (for me anyway)

The "don't get addicted comment" is also good advice but, you will get addicted anyway.

Thumbs up

IMHO I would definitely do the cut-out first - $30 bucks from summit and whatever you can get a shop to install it for (I paid $50 but I think I got raped). It sounds AWSOME. I also bought my CAI for $100 used. So with that you still have $200 to spen - TB bypass is cheap <$5. You could do some searching and find a airfoil used cheap and a 1LE elbow or just cut the donky dong off yours and seal the hole. With over $100 left you can definitely do plugs and wires but you will need a few hours and some patience.
