Quick question about vibration on higher rpm's?

Long story short, one bolt is missing to hold the flywheel to the block. Would this be the cause for vibration on higher rpm's? the higher the rpm the greater the vibration. Its a 97 6spd camaro. I forgot to mention its an aluminum flywheel (fidanza)

Have you checked the u-joints?or maybe the trans mount.I wouldnt think 1 bolt missing would cause a vibration, but with these cars who knows.lol...Disregard my response if the vibration is only while sitting still..

Re: Quick question about vibration on higher rpm's?

I would say its possible. Here recently I was having clutch release problems. It started with a small vibration at high rpm's, then turned into ALOT of noise when the car was in neutral at idle. Then I was constantly fighting the clutch not wanting to fully release. This was over a 4 wk. period. I just finished up the repairs a few weeks ago, all types of stuff. But when I pulled the trans out, I got a major shock. Three flywheel bolts had broke off, and three were backing out. Let me tell you this was not easy to fix. But everything is back to normal now.

I doubt teh missing bolt is producing the vibration....unless it's stuck in the area somewhere. THe bolts themsleves are so close to the centerline of the crank.....

Has the car done this since the install of the flywheel or has it just developed? I put an aluminum flywheel in mine once and it vibrated bad enough for me to pull the tranny back out. It turned out to be an improperly balance flywheel....

Re: Quick question about vibration on higher rpm's?

Well I checked the u- joints and mounts, and they seemed fine. I also noticed that while cruising (55-70 mph) in 6th gear it shakes very bad, but once I pass the 70mph mark vibration seems to go away a bit. I'm just goin to pull the tranny off, and probably just go with a stock flywheel, I also heard of these flywheels getting unbalanced. But, I guess there's only one way to find out.

If you have the stock flywheel, you might take the aluminum one to a local shop and have them balance it the same way....

Having driven both...I actually prefer the heavy steel one for drivability. It's easier to launch but a touch slower, I guess.

Is your vibration RPM or MPH related?

Is the flywheel correctly matched to the engine balance method - a weight on it for stock external balance, no weight for a rebuild with an internal balance?

Re: Quick question about vibration on higher rpm's?

I got the flywheel after my build up (503cam, forged internals balanced) flywheel was balanced. And its rpm related, once i put it on neutral the vibration goes away.
