quick help needed for friend at track, dead opti???

My buddy just called from the track, and told me on his last run the car just died ... they thought it was fuel related, but comes out the sparks arent getting any arc.... they checked the coil, and coil is arching, but not the plugs... they are saying its a dead opti, but i've never heard of an opti just dying all out at once... I thought they start to go bad, and then just die, his was ok, and then bam, opti totally goes up, cant wont startup...

so is it the opti, or something else? like i said, i've never heard of an opti just dying out of nowhere, is that possible? I need some quick/good responses thx!

They can suddenly die. Sometimes the rotor disintegrates. That could be a likely scenario at a track.

Well, it was the opti Opti Trashed and it happened right after going through the traps at the top of 4th. 12.1@126
So, I replaced it the next day and since the dealership wasn't open i picked one up from Autozone. The prices were about 149.99 + 139.99, but had some problems. The connector wouldn't fit into the opti because the pins didn't line up, so i had to slightly bend the four pins to line up with the connector, PITA, and now with everything together i am getting a stumble at low RPMs. I checked over the plugs, wires, and coil. So now im looking at Opti again
Anyone have any problems with aftermarket Optis.

Luke
