quick head/cam question

well, i know a lot of people are using lloyd elliot stuff and what not, but for me, thats not quite practical since my car is a DD, and i do not want to shift that high
it will be a weekend warrior that i would like to see mid 11's with off of a 383, im having a couple questions if heads and cam tho

heads, im thinking about just sending to get ported/polished by eric bradby, or a similar person

cam, i want something to utilize the low-end of the LT1 to get off the line faster, but still have good power to the stock redline (dont want to shift over 6300 or so)

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...779LUN&FROM=MG
would that work? i know its not a massive cam, but it would help with torque and low-end, correct?

any1 ever use this cam?
i know theres gonna be a lot of people saying to use something different, but one of my favorite quotes is "what works for them works for their application, and it is just that, their application, not yours"

What's wrong with the LE1 package, making power from 2,000-6,200RPM? If that's still too much cam for you, tell him what your objective is and he'll give you what you need.

See, that's the thing about custom work, they can make it to whatever spec you want. Call Lloyd or some of the other H/C guys around and see if they can make what you're looking for. Just because you read about someone else's LEx package, does not mean that they will all rev that high or make that much power.

I have the 210/224, baby cam in my 97SS. The lift with 1.6 rrs is 510/552 on 112. The cam you are considering is about the same size in duration, however the lift is the same on intake and exhaust, which is ok, but the crane 210/224 lift is 510/552 which, in my opinion, offers better low-end----it's considered an RV cam. It's a 6000 max cam, easy to tune, idles like stock, but a real stump puller. JMHO

If you have a daily driver... RPM is not a problem if you have a bottom end built for it, what you are looking for is something that drives around well enough to use everyday. The point of having a set up made to work with what you have is that it's right for you, like your quote says.

Here's a quote that I like

"Well, I decided to do a cam swap. When I do something, I try to do it right. The biggest part of doing it right was choosing the right cam. I researched for months and had my mind made up about 100 times…only to change it again every time. Close to the end I was ==>THIS<== close to just ordering the damn GM 847 and calling it a day. But I knew even the 847 wasn’t “right” for my target RPM range and it could be beat, but I didn’t know how to do it. The more I learned about this stuff the more complicated it became. So, I declared myself unqualified and hired a Pro. I’m glad I did."

That's what our job is.... to get you what you need when you look at everything and can't get yourself what you need.

BTW that came from this http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259094

Read thru that and see if that's what you are looking for.... thats what I help Lloyd do.
