questions about new car

questions about new car

okay, here is my situation. i just picked up a new car; 97 SS, lt4 hot cam, ported, polished, milled heads, Hypertech power programmer 3. problem car won't pass emissions. too rich at idle. under throttle the car is fine. what do i need to do? do i need a reprogrammed ecm for the cam or what? thanks.

i would have it reprogramed jsut to pass emissions, then put the old computer back in, but it might cost you $250. but you could us it every year for emissions.

Unload the HPP3 and sell it. Then have the car programmed by Ion or Brian and you shouldn't have to worry about emissions.

okay, thanks for the answers. one more thing though, where do i adjust for my speedo then? i have agear in the car, and th HPP3 lets me recalibrate for that. do i need another device (like the ones from GMS) or can that be done with reprogramming as well.

Reprogramming will take care of the gears. I know a guy that put a hot cam in a 97 M6 and with the reprogram he had done, most all his emissions were less than a stock cammed car. The HPP is not really meant for a modified car, IMO. That's probably your biggest problem.
