Questions on a 383 Stroker
Questions on a 383 Stroker
Ok, I am rebuilding my engine and I really want to go with the 383 stroker. But, is the 383 stroker streetable, can you drive it as a daily? If so, can you please tell me a little about your setup? Thanks in adavance.

Hi,
I have been real happy with my new engine. I conciously chose a mild cam to keep it streetable. My heads only have the valves unshrouded. The cam does not really come in until 2000 so I really need to change my differential from 2.73 to 3.42. I am below 2000 at 75 mph so even then throttle response is a touch slow. Higher gear would keep me in the power band more often but cost me 1-2 mpg. I get about 15.5 mpg with mixed highway/city driving.

The only thing that is going to determine how streetable your car is going to be is the cam. I've got the 306 on the stock bottom end and it fine. In fact when I yank the motor out i'm gonna go with a huge solid roller cam.
