When having your car tuned can you send in your pcm and have it done, or do you need to have it done locally and bring the car in. Im sorry for some of these questions that I have been asking, and if they seem mundane or ignorant.

 

You send it in if your having it done

pcm4less and madz28 are pretty popular

 

Depends what you want done.

A Mail-order tune is generally sufficient for a bolt-on car or one with a generic head/cam combo.

A Dyno-tune (car on dyno chassis) becomes a necessity when you start to build more custom combos.
A good tuner can build you a start-up tune via mail to get the car running and follow up
with a dyno tune later to squeeze out a few extra HP.

Ed Wright (fastchip.com) does all of my tuning.
I've been throwing crazy custom stuff at him for years and he had never let me down.

 

You can also get a email order tune and load it onto the PCM yourself. I've been doing it that way for years and it saves alot of money and time. Just need to pickup a ALDL cable and have a PC or Laptop.

Couple ways you can do a mail order..

Send in the PCM to Madz28 or pcmforless.

Have TrifectaPerformance send you a handheld with everything you need to upload it onto your car.

Buy the cables and I am sure Madz28 or pcmforless will email you a tune (I am sure TrifectaPerformance will email you a tune also)

 

I paid like $20 on the boards here, but ask Madwolf and he'll tell you where you can buy them now. AKM Cable I think was the name of the place that used to sell them...

I'm almost certain AKM only sells OBDI cables.

 

You can make either cable into the other with some radio shack parts and the diagram from soapbox's webpage. Just have to get the right pins wired to the right holes.
