Question about Spec stage III clutch problem?
Question about Spec stage III clutch problem?
I have had the clutch in for exactly one year and it still hooks up fine. The problem is the engage point is completly off the clutch, when i first got it would engage about 1/2 to 3/4 of all the way up. Also dont know if this is same thing but when i am in third and I let out of the gas to slow down it kind of jerks back like it is misfiring. Also I only am running around 320rwhp, and it has 85k miles. Please help, dont want to buy my 5th clutch.
Just to add I have gone through two factory clutchs, one ram, and also a mcleod. This is with rarely punching it and racing every now and then on the streets. No dragstrip seen yet.
I have the old style stage III carbon too and it works great IMO, doesn't even chatter IF you drive it right
. It does engage high up though. I called star about this and they said it was no issue, infact the guy I talked to drove a firebird I believe with a stage III carbon and his clutch engaged high too... though it seemed to hold well for him. Anyways, they have been honest and helpful with me in the past when I toasted the first stage III (my fault) so I assume they were being honest this time around. Give 'em a call anyways and see what they say.
Oh, and under what conditions did you toast the other four clutches? Fluid on the disk? PP lose a spring? Just curious.. if you're going through clutches that rapidly then I'd say you have a trans problem causing the failures. I had a leaky slave I thought caused the stocker to fail (covered in some lubricant) so I put the star in and it failed shortly there after. Turned out the leaky slave was not the culprit, the seal around the imput shaft was leaking so trans fluid would leak out onto the disk... Just an example of the possibilities I guess. So anyways, check that the hydrolic assembly is full of fluid and not leaking, the clutch fork is not bent, the trans fluid is up, oh and make sure the bolts holding the pedal to the floor are tight (I forgot this one when I changed the master/slave assembly and it prevented my cruise from working untill I figured it out.. plus the pedal felt.. well.. weird).
I haven't heard of many stories about these clutches failing.. just exploding
so unless it goes kaboom I don't think it'll fail anytime soon unless you've got some other problem causing premature failures.
HTH
