question about posi-traction
question about posi-traction
I was told by someone at work, that periodically I have to go to a large parking lot and drive my car in tight circles in both directions to make the posi clutches work. He told me that failure to do this will reduce the life span of the rear end in my car.
Is there any validity to this?

Well, I guess making tight circles in both ways would help send some extra oil to axle bearings, therefore helping the rear end. But I think you make enough left-right turns in everyday driving to keep the bearings lubed up. It probably won't hurt your car though, so if you want to be like a 14 year-old kid driving in circles again, go ahead and have fun.
For best results, apply full throttle while making tight left and right turns in the empty parking lot
I've never heard of anything like this. Look in the owner's manual. I doubt it says anything of the sort. That's the only thing I'd base it on. You get all sorts of nonsense information sometimes.

The only time I have heard of any recommendation like that is after you have changed the gear oil and put in the posi additive. Tight, slow, figure eights, forward and reverse will help work the lube into all the areas of the posi. After that, I would think normal driving would take care of lubrication. I don't seem to be reading of lots of failures because people are not taking special steps.
