question about hpp III

I want to buy a used hypertech programmer. The programmer is from a 96, will this programmer work for a 97 also?

I have heard these two are interchangeable even though the part #'s are different. Anybody else?

it is junk! had one and i feel i wasted my money. Invest into an OBD1 computer and tunercat and datamaster

My fund are limited and I have to pass emmisions. I'm buying it used so it wont cost me that much. I need to know for sure before I buy it.
