If our cars learn so that the A/F ratio can't be changed, how does putting a CAI give more horespower? Shouldn't it learn that it can get air easier and adjust the A/F ratio accordingly. Don't get me wrong, I have a CAI on my car and I know it gave me more HP, I was just curious about how it does if our cars learn.

 

Basically, you are talking about air volume not ratio. The engine is apparently capable of pulling more air in than the stock intake plumbing will allow. The CAI removes the restriction. With more air coming in, the pcm can add more fuel. This does not have to affect the a/f ratio.
