Question Question about functional Ram Air Hood??

I just got my Ram Air II Hood today! YAY!! I current have a Moroso CAI setup and have no intentions of changing to the Ram Air Box. I remeber reading how some people have opened the vents on the hood and it helped keep the engine temp down. Is there any truth to that? Is it safe? If so does anyone know where I can the proper vents and such to keep the nasties out of the engine bay? Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

Who makes the "Ram Air II" hood? What does it look like? Are you talking about simply cutting out the "scoop" openings? Is there any sort of baffling behind the openings to keep water out? I'd be hesitant to open the hood up unless there was some sort of baffling to keep water from ending up on front/top of the engine.... and maybe dribbling down on the Opti......

I got the hood from carhoods.com. It's basic a 93-97 Ram Air hood with enlarged openings. The stuff came with the hood to open it up..... I'm just wondering if it is worth while. Will it help keep the temps down or is more hassle then it's worth? I definitly don't want the opti to get screwed up.... even though I've still got a little less then 2 years left on my warrenty.

Thanks

The website indicates the hood has baffles, that need to be opened up along with the air inlet holes. If the baffles look decent, you shouldn't have any water entry problems. Another thing to think about is removing the thick rubber gasket that seals the back edge of the hood to the cowl. That will open up the back and let the air flow into the front of the hood through the scoops, and out the back, taking the heat with it. You do need to be careful when washing the car, since water can run in over the cowl and it seems to like to fall on the PCM. Put a baggie on it when you wash the car.
