Question About Crank Balancing

I did a search and just want to make sure I have everything right.

If I go with an internally balanced setup then:

1. The stock dampener is already 0 balanced so I won't have to mess with it.

2. I would need a flywheel that was also 0 balanced.

Is this correct??

Get you balancer balanced separately from the rotating assy, that way if you have to replace it, you don't throw your motor out of balance. But yes, the full round motors are internal on the front and external on the rear, you would use a zero balance flywheel to make it internal all the way. You need to have your stock balancer checked for "0" because the factory makes minor balance adjustments by drilling the balancer on the assembly line.

What he said. If you are building anything more than a mild motor, you should replace the stock damper with something better. ATI Superdamper or Fluidampr. They will come truly neutral (zero) balanced.

Its going to be a 355 with stock heads and a cc503 cam. Is that mild enough or do I need to go with a better damper?

you can stick with the stock damper for that setup. But as already stated you should balance it. Most builders will ask for your balancer and flywheel while they are balancing the rotating assembly so they can check and balance them also.

Awesome I'll make sure to do that. I just keep worrying about different things because I have never done a build like this before.

Where can I get a 0 balanced flywheel for a good price. I am currently just using a stock type flywheel and it wasn't that expensive. Do I really have to pay $200+ just to get a 0 balanced flywheel?

Any good machine shop should be able to mill the counterweight off your GM flywheel and spin it to check the balance.
