question about cam install..

im putting a comp cc305 in my car in a few days and was just wondering a few things.

ive already got new bee hive springs and retainers but should i replace the pushrods? if so what size do i need. also, someone told me to not use assembly lube on the cam, as it could clog passeges or something and to just use heavy oil instead. what do you guys recomend? ive never heard of that before. thanks for any help.

To check the pushrods you'll need a push rod legnth checker, and yes you really should do that. As for the cam lube I'm not sure but I would use assembly lube on the journals and motor oil on the lobes.

while it is a good idea to measure for pushrod length it would be a safe bet that stock lenght would work fine unless you have extensivly milled your heads or block. as far as assembly lube i have had good luck with gm assembly lube that you can get from the dealer. it is not like a grease as manny are. it is alot like a very sticky oil.

if your worried about clogging oil passages with assy lube, i would not put it on the journals, i would use 20w50 on the journals and assy lube on the lobes.

The money you saved by not checking your valve train geometry will be long forgotten when compared to the possible expense you could face by using pushrods that are the incorrect length, plus other things that could be found out of spec when doing the other checks that are normally done when setting up the valve train
