question about bose

sorry to post this here but there isnt much action in the custom area............

i want an aftermarket cd player but i was told i cant because of the bose, unless i replace all of the speakers and then rewire it all too. is this true ? is there anyway i can get an adapter or something and still use an aftermarket cd player? please help me out if you can.......i called a local dealer who does parts for good prices and they laughed and said a stock radio w/ cd player would be $1200...............WTF !

thanks in advance

i tried that too at first but with bose you have to be careful, it doesnt like mixing to well, and it sounds like crap IMO, so 4 thosand dollars later it sounds nice, my advice to you is ditch the bose and start from fresh, in the long run you wont be sorry

you can buy a amplified kit, i forget the exact name of it that makes bose work with aftermarket head units, walmart sells it, think its like 12 bucks, and you dont have to change your speakers just install the amplifier, wire it up and follow the directions and it should work

ive done a Bose system once without the adaptor. If I remember right you have to hook up the amp remote wire or the power ant wire to the switched output on the after market radio. If it goes to 50 you better not go past about 20-25. Itll start sounding really bad and crap out the Bose speakers really soon. the reason for this is cuz they have seperate amp on each speaker that are totally Bose unique. The speakers are also. They are true 12volt amps with no high voltage transformer so they send a 12v speaker signal instead of 50--70 volts. Because of this the speakers need to be 1 ohm or lower.

if you need anymore facts just said "nerd " 3 times and throw your mouse over your shoulder

You can get adapters for the Bose system to an aftermarket cd player, they cost about $60. I have one sitting at home now, I had it in my 96 Z28 before it got totaled, and it worked great. I'm not going to use it in my TA for now because I can't use the steering wheel controls with aftermarket player

Go here:
http://www.affsave.com/pac.htm

and buy the PAC OEM-1 adapter

You can install any cd player with it.

I had one in my car and worked great with my Pioneer headunit.

Yep, sounds great and everything else is the same just as with the stock unit. I've had this on my car for a whole year.

yeah the part s for the metra kits are 40-gm10 for the ant and either 99-4544 or 99-3002 for the dash kit. Like I said be fore you can do it without the adaptor kit but the after market radio is usually about twice the actual power if not more then the stock. I know it says 50x 4 but thats not even close, but thats why you cant really turn it up.

Sorry, I am going to keep mine for when I upgrade the CD player. I heard only Alpine makes a CD player that can use the steering wheel controls right now, so I will eventually be getting that unit, sorry. Call around some local car audio shops to see if they have any. If not Crutchfield sells the adapters.
