question about borla exhaust

my next mod will be a 3 inch borla cat back system.

there is a 3 " borla single inlet dual outlet muffler on ebay for 100 bucks.... should i go ahead and get that put on now and get the rest of the 3" piping later? cause i really can't afford it right now....

how much difference in sound is there bt 2 1/2 and 3" ?

and if i just got a cheaper brand of 3" pipe later why would it make any difference, besides rusting...

thanks for the replies

btw if anyone has any borla sound clips with just the muffler w/o catback i'd like to hear them, along with any others

Go ahead and get the muffler, especially if it comes wiht the tips. The tips go for around 40 a piece alone. You can have a shop bend you 3 inch pipe. 3 inch pipe is 3 inch pipe as long as its manderal bent. If you cant get the pipe bent, you can order an I pipe from somebody else, say Dynomax and have it all put together at the shop.

from how it sounds, the muffler may have two tips coming out of the left side. so, you may just have 2 on the left. i know the borla for the camaro's/firebirds that comes out on both sides of the car is called dual dual. this is two tips on the left and two on the right side.

That doesnt look to be teh same muffler that comes wiht the catback, but I dont own a borla and cant give you a strait answer on that. If youre intrested in that muffler though, theres no reason you cant pick it up and have your own custom pipe bent or order a I pipe from a company like dynomax like I mentioned earlier. As for the tips, if you really like the Borlas they can be ordered or you can have the shop just give you the normal slash chrome tips.

The only thing youll lack with a custom system like that is the adjustability of the catback. That however can be cured with a cut out.

The 2.75" 'rear section' has a muffler that looks like that. Like someone stated above it should have outlets on opposite sides.

The catback is a cutout to the passenger side tip, then a single in single out muffler to the drivers side tip.

The rear section muffler, which is what i believe that is, sounds much better than the catback. It is quieter than an open plate on the cutout (duh) but louder than the closed plate. It sounds much smoother too.

that is a link to me vs an LX mustang at the track, not the best audio clip, but you can hear it. Sounds real nice.

I have that for sale right now actually if your interested. It's all Stainless Steel so it's in great shape and you'd get the borla intercooled tips too.

PM me with an offer if your interested. You can find pricing for it on borlas site, it's the "rear section"
