Question about actual exhaust piping
Question about actual exhaust piping
Well when I got in an accident back in June, my cars exhaust was bent. The I pipe now rattles on the tunnel brace and one of my tail pipes was actually bent into the muffler causing it to poke out to the left a little bit.
It obviously has to be replaced and teh body shop told me to just take it to a local exhaust shop, get whatever I want and bring back the bill and insurance would cover it!
Well I called aroudn and found one place that offers Magnaflow so I thought Id go with it. The problem is, if I want to order teh whole catback they say I'll have to wait a few weeks. They can bend me the 3 inch pipe, but it wont be manderal (sp?) bent. Will crinkles in the I pipe really make that much of a difference? If I dont get this exhaust from a local shop I will have to pay out of pocket and dont really want a flowmaster catback.
Thanks

Mandrel bends can make a big difference as far as flow is concerned but with your basically stock setup I would think 3 inch crinkle bends would be ok.
If you are going big with mods in the future you might want to wait for the catback setup otherwise you could just change it later on down the road.
I have owned my car for for over 6 years now and I have changed exhausts 4 times, just one of those things I am never happy with I guess.

I'd say it depends what they are doing exactly. If they just need to replace the relatively straight section and put a 10° bend it then its a-ok. If we are talking about over the axle then i'd definitly wait. Mandrels are supposed to flow ~30% more. If upgrade from 2.75" to 3" but go from mandrel to regular bends you haven't gained a thing, infact you might be worse off. I had regular bends temporarly in my system just to hook it up, it was ridiculous when you compared the 2 90s of bent to the 90s mandrel bent.
Wait it out, good things take time.
Are you sure you can't order something online, have them install it and submit all that to insureance?

I have to ask the guy at the body shop about ordering something. I did find one local shop that sells Dynomax Ultraflows so I may go by there tomorrow and see what they have to say.
I havent heard a Dynomax Ultraflow on a LT1 before though. Has anyone? I'm just hoping it isnt too loud.
