Question for Rob regarding porting the MAF

What's your opinion regarding porting the MAF? ie. do you think the MAF or the PCM has to be recalibrated to show more air flow? I have my own opinion but I am interested in someone elses.

BTW I just discovered the IGNORE button. You probably knew about that function since you've been here so long.
Man it makes reading posts a lot better. Got 3 Einsteins on my list just yesterday.

The pcm tables are calibrated to the MAF as it comes from the factory. If ported, the tables are no longer accurate. Given different mods on different cars, not all results are the same. If you port, be ready to experiment with the MAF tables to compensate. Most tuners don't like ported MAFs, as it throws a variable into the mix and makes it harder to tune.

On a side note, I ported mine long ago when it was the "thing to do" (and I was less knowledgeable). I did retain the screen and never had any drivability problems. When I got to the point of doing my own pcm tuning and after a cam install, I did make some changes to the MAF tables.

Thanks I thought changing the MAF would change things. Just like to know I'm on the right track.
