Q about timing chain for LE2 package.
I will be installing my LE2 package hopefully soon after I get it from Lloyd. I am probably going to run the Cloyes double roller timing chain.
Is there anyone with this timing chain and have you had any issues?
I know of someone who used a Cloyes OE replacement, but had issues. The recess, inside the "thrust face" of the cam gear was machined to an incorrect depth and when he tightened the gear to the cam, the back of the gear "locked up" on the front face of the block.
He then had to "massage" the gear into shape.
Anyone hear of this?
The only reason that I do not want to go with the LT4 timing chain is because it is so damn pricey, but at the same time I do not want to cut any corners and buy the cheap quality stuff either just because it is inexpensive.

I have not heard of anyone having issues with the cloyes double roller on our cars.
You need to clearance the timing cover some, but that's about it. I'm running one with no problems.

How much did you have to clearance the cover?
How much did you pay for the chain and the sprockets and where did you purchase it from?

Cloyes 3145, $79 from summit. 
I took a die grinder and rounded out the inside edges of my timing cover around where the chain would rub, every car is different.
Best bet is to rub some grease on the chain, set your timing cover on the block, rotate the engine and see where it rubs, clearance it, rinse and repeat.

What have you done for the electric water hole in the timing cover? Did you weld that up? Did the new pump come with a plug?
The chain seems to be pretty damn expensive w/the sprockets, for about $349 for the set. I can get the LT4 timing chain set for $299 or less.

$79.88 - this includes the chain and two sprockets.
The hole in the timing cover? A quarter and some quick steel seals it right up. Ghetto, but it works. Welding it shut would of course be the better route if you have access to such.

just believe javier...he has the righ part, your part is for a differant motor i believe the older style i dont even know if that will fit your car...the 79 dollar one is correct

Sometimes your have to go "pricey". I hated it but "LT4 HD chain" here.
Just like buying stock piston rings (go price 'em). It's a smart punch to the sack but worth it overall.

The 3145 is the correct part # for a factory hydraulic roller block SBC. Our LT1s are just that plus the different water pump drive. Going with that set like a lot of us will require the use of an electric water pump.

The 3145 is the correct part #, yes it is for gen 1 SBC, there's no such thing as an LT1 specific double roller timing set, mostly due to the water pump. You must convert to an electric pump to run a double roller.
That LT1 specific timing set up tehre is probably the cloyes equivalent to the LT4 ED set, as it is *not* a doulbe roller, picture shows it as if it were, but read the text.

The reason I questioned your part number because it was not listed under the LT1 engine, but rather gen 1 etc.
So 3145 is NOT a double roller timing chain, but rather a single chain that is basically an OEM replacement timing chain set, right?

Yeah the double roller chains are for roller block 1 piece seal SBC blocks.
BTW you don't need to clearance them much IF you use the felpro timing chain gasket. That usually gives you the clearance you need but it is always best to check.
