Putting engine and trans back in together (Conected, one piece.)

I pulled the engine and transmission(t56) out seperately, and have never put them back in as one piece. I would like to put them back as "one" Does anybody know how high the car has to be , to do this.

Also i searched to try and find a thread or pictures, if anyone knows a site or thread, could you please leave a link. Or help me with some key words, that would help me find the info. I have seen sites with pictures, but didn't save them, and can't remember the addresses. Thanks.

u wanna install it as once piece? i hope it's painlfully obvious that ur gonna have to from underneath the car. but, is there any particular reason ur doing this? i mean, installing them seperately would be much easier.

you need to be underneath the car with the k-member and all that stuff out, just seperate them, unless you have a lift

Thanks guys for the info.

You CAN actually do it from the top with the trans and engine togther though. I have SEEN it a few times. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how high the car needs to be. Or if anyone could link me to the sites, since i have not been to them in awhile. ( I forgot the addresses.)

I know something like a " happy hooker" or engine equilizer will help ALOT, but again it has been done a bit, and I have seen it myself. Thanks again for the info though!

It can be done no problem....I do it everytime when I pull my motor. The only thing you need to make sure of is that the balancer and opti are not on when you try to drop it in. They need to be off.

I start out with the car on jackstands about 14" off the ground. You will need an extra person under the car as well just to guide the tail of the tranny and bolt the cross member to it (and to the car) when needed. I bolt the crossmember up first (leaving the bolt for the mount a *little* loose....not too loose. That way you have the tranny relatively in place and you can still support the front of the motor by the hoist needed for the next step.

The other thing that I do is pull BOTH motor mounts out completely. That gives you the extra room needed. When the motor is under the cowl, there is plenty of room to slip the mounts in from there. I bolt them to the K-member first, then lower the motor on to them and bolt the motor down. If you have Hooker LTs make sure you have the passengers side header in place (not bolted up) before you bolt the motor to the mount. On a side note, if you are running the Hooker LTs AND have a Canton oil pan, BOTH headers need to be along side of the motor (ready to be bolted up) before you bolt the motor to the mounts.

Its pretty strait forward.....the tail of the tranny will hang way low when you first pick it up off the ground, so you will need someone there to support it (pick it up with the motor). Just gotta have someone lift the end of the tranny over the front bumper and into the bay since the fulcrum will be over the motor. You'll see what I am talking about.

Its a real easy job with 1-2 extra people there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Thats exactly what I was looking for.

Also. Did you use a "happy hooker" or engine equilizer (tilter) , or did you just use the regular engine chains?
