Pushrods - LE2 guys

I'm going to an LE-2 heads/cam on my lt1 that currently has a hotcam. Did you have to change your pushrod length?

I have 1.6RR and 0.028 Head Gasket (from impala)

I would say no, but this is something that is specific to each engine. You have to think about your deck height, if your heads were milled, valve stem length, etc. Like I said, I don't think that using a stock length pushrod would be a problem, but it's always a good idea to check and make sure, esp. since the measuring tool isn't expensive.

Yes the length will be different.... you have taken essentially .030" off the deck to head distance. Stock gasket is .051" and Lloyd said typical pull off the heads is .010".

I had to use shorter pushrods. My rocker nuts wouldn't screw on.

Re: Pushrods - LE2 guys

I was just hoping that I would be able to put the cam/heads on and get it started up in one weekend.

OK, so lets say I have the engine assembled and I have the tool from summit for checking length. Do I have to be worried about the lifter being collapsed when I check the length? I've never done this before. Thanks,

With stock gaskets, you should be fine with 7.20"
With "Impala" gaskets, I had to step down to 7.15"

The best way to make sure is to use a pushrod length checker.

Here's what I got when I asked Lloyd

parts and check it with a chacker.

If you are using a stock bottom end, you wanna use an Impala head
gasket (.029 thick) as opposed to the stock GM gasket (.051 thick). This
difference alone can effect pushrod length and intake fitment. The higher
compression and improved quench is worth 5 HP and 8-10 RWTQ across the board
so it is worth doing.

Just use a dremel to slot the intake bolt holes inward if needed.

FWIW, most end up running a 7.150 PR.

Yea, to get a real accurate pattern on the (sharpie pen colored) Valve stem tip, you can't really have "any" lifter plunger compression going on....You can try to find an old LT1 roller lifter that you can take apart and put a small bolt or some washers inside to make it solid....or If you really have no other option, get the engine running with your 7.2 length pushrods so that all your lifters are fully pumped up and then go back "immediately" after, remove SEVERAL rockers, color the valve stem tips, set-up your rockers again, cycle through a couple or few times by turning the engine with your ratchet from the balancer bolt (clockwise rotation) and check all the paterns(do a bunch of them)...you want the most centralized patern that is also as narrow as possible.......IMO, the 7.2's will be very close (mine were dead on, even with the Impala gaskets) and even if you require a shorter pushrod it won't hurt a thing by running it for a short bit with the slightly longer ones......Also, take your plugs out or at least unscrew them a little so the motor turns over much easier by hand........Joe
