pushrod diameter

probably a stupid question, i'm going to be running a 1.6 comp pro mags nsa with a 7/16 stud and stock lifters. question is what diameter pushrods do i need? i've noticed part numbers for both 3/8, 7/16, and a few others. i've searched and have found no info on this.

oh, and does anyone know how to modify one of my stock lifters to a solid one to check pushrod length.

thanks guys...

Re: pushrod diameter

The correct PR depends on the rest of the valvetrain and the desired rpm. Take a look at this: http://www.mantonpushrods.com/Pushrod_Info.html

BTW: Manton is an awesome source for pushrods.

I agree, but you might spell that "awe$ome".

True dat, but you do get what you pay for in this case. Last set we bought was for a buddies 5.0 Mustang. They were non-tapered 3/8" pieces that ran ~$180. Maybe $20-40 more than a set of Comp's "Hi-Tech". Custom length, got 'em 3 days after ordering and got to talk to the "old man" hisself to boot!

Re: pushrod diameter

You need 5/16 1 piece pushrods in 7.200" long, that will work for you even when you upgrade to a camshaft later on as well. You can stick with the stock ones on just the rocker upgrade but not with a cam upgrade.

Re: pushrod diameter

These are decent pushrods that should work with your application.

Re: pushrod diameter

thanks for the replies guys. i forgot to mention that i am going with an le2 cam/head package. so, i will need to go with a 5/16 diameter pushrod? i'm going to check with a pushrod checker to get the proper length. just wondering, do i really need to check the length of the pushrod with a solid lifter? or can i get away with using my hydraulic lifters?

Re: pushrod diameter

Yes, get at least the PR that Silvershark showed you. I use them or Comp Hi-Tech at the minimum. A lot of the times the Hi Techs are the only ones that will come in the length you need.

You can use the hyd lifter to check, it's not as accurate but it's usually very close to what you would be running anyways.
