purge solenoid
purge solenoid
i have a p1441 code on my 97 z i have replaced all of the components on the evap system about a year including most of the vacuum lines ago for this same code when does the purge solenoid open im trying to test to see if its working and cant get it to open is there a way to test the solenoid to see if its working properly
Re: purge solenoid
There is a purge solenoid, typically under the hood, and there is a vent solenoid usually near the evap canister that both seem to throw similar codes. I went through this a year or two ago on my '97 Blazer- made me nuts! Ended up being the vent solenoid, in back near the fuel tank- the "trick" to working on it was to drop the whole bracket, so you had room to work on it- maybe a $20 part, but I spent a couple years and probably a couple hundred dollars chasing it- purge sensor, O2 sensor, MAP sensor, fuel filter- it was random, and come on and go off at just about any time. I ran so much fuel system cleaner through there- crazy.
Re: purge solenoid
Is it possible you have the two hoses that connect to the EVAP purge solenoid reversed? If so, it will expose the vacuum detector switch to vacuum when the solenoid is closed, and set P1441 - Purge solenoid stuck open. Shoebox has a photo showing the correct orientation of the hoses. Note that 96/97 OBD-II has the vacuum detection switch on the passenger valve cover, in the line from the canister. 93-95 OBD-I does not have that switch. But the connections remain in the same location on the purge solenoid.

Re: purge solenoid
there deff hooked up right the top port on the solenoid goes to the manifold and the bottom port goes to the switch besides i dont think it would of taken a year to trip a ses if the hoses where hooked up wrong i have this topic on another forum where shoebox replied he recomended grounding the green/white wire or jumping pins 5 and 6 on the dlc when i jumped the green wire it opened when i jumped the pins on the dlc nothing happened
