Protecting wires from headers?

Can anyone recommend anything to do to the plug wires to help them against the heat of headers? I thought about rapping them up in some header tape, but don't know how hard it would be to run the wires afterwards. Just tryin to get some suggestions.

Thanks!

It might not be a bad ideal to go OTVC routing if you have not already done so.

take your time and direct the wires at least an inch from the headers and you'll be fine. Zip ties are you friend. no need to go otvc, but it does look pretty cool!!

I had heard about otvc setups but I've never seen one. Does anyone have a pic of them installed? I have the Corvette fuel rail covers and valve covers...can I still run otvc setup?

Thanks guys!

After I did my headers...one of my spark plug wires was VERY close to a primary tube. At the time I didnt see any other way to route it, so I used a section of fire sleeving to cover the area where it was close...the fire sleeving was actually touching the primary tube (I know now this was not smart). Well, after a few weeks...the header burned a hole in the fire sleeve, and then into my plug wire...and it started arching! My car was missing terribly and running like crap. Once I realized what it was..I got under there and made sure I routed the wire differently. I wrapped up the 'injured area' with electrical tape and still have the fire sleeve over it...but it's got about 3/4 inch clearance now...and no problems since. The moral is just be sure to route your wires VERY carefully. Take your time, and as mentioned above...zip ties come in very handy.

I also have Corvette FRCs and Corvette valve covers. Yes, it can be done but the Corvette valve covers are too pretty to go OTVC. So I went side mount.

Nice job! Where did you get the side mount kit from? Did you have to use the Taylor custom cut wires or just the regular Taylors? Are those headers TPIS brand? (that's the kind I have )

Thanks to everyone for all the good info!

Got it from Thunder Racing. Where else? They have 2 kits you can get. OTVC and side mount. The wires are universal wires. My headers are FLPs.

Will the OTCV work with MSD 8.5 MM wires or do I need a set that is longer? It seems like the MSD wires barely reach in some cases.
