I ordered a proform cam checker tool. It slides into the lifter bore and holds a dial indicator.

I thought this would be a good solution to checking the cam and my installation.

I dawned on me that I might not be able to use this tool with the heads on.

Has anyone used this tool?

Will it work with the heads on?

Why would you use this cam checker? Just curious..

 

What in the world does the heads being on the car have to do with using that tool? To be checking a cam you would need the tappets to be pulled anyways.

 

I would like to check that the cam is degreed properly, that is why I would use it to check lift at .050 with a degree wheel to get the lobe centerline and check my work.

The heads overhang the block towards the intake. The cam checker has a large dial at the top. If the dial hits the heads, then you won't be able to slip it into the lifter bore. That is what I am concerned about.
