proform 1.6 rockers any good?

There are a bunch of sets on sale on ebay for around $160. My question is are these any good? I have pheads that flow around 235 on the intake side and I have a CC305 cam that are going in very soon and I need roller rockers asap, but I want the best value as well.

I know that Crane gold 1.6 rockers would probably be the best choice, but are they worth double the price of the proforms?

Thanks

Joe

I know the main bodies they make for Holley carbs are pretty good. Not sure on their rocker arms though. Personally, I like Comp's pro mag rockers.

The proforms are pure crap. My friend had them on his 72 Chevelle with a 327 and many of them cracked. Golds are nice but they are heavy. I like Pro mags.

What were the cam specs on your friends Chevelle? I know several b-body guys are running these myself included and none of us have had a single issue. I have heard of people wearing out the Golds in 20K but there are more of those on the road so you would hear of more failures. I have a bit over 30K on my 1.5 Proforms the last 16K plus with a mild cam and stiffer springs, they guys I was with on the Power Tour the other day all agreed the motor sounded stock and that is with stock valvecovers so they are whisper quiet even at this milge. Had the Comp ProMagnums been out when I bought I very well may have gone with those but do not regret the Proforms one bit they continue to serve me well.

Don't mess with the Proforms. I have seen 2 sets break on LT1's. Mine messed up real bad and a friend of mine started the same wear. Dont waste your time with them. Try out some Pro Mag's Or Crane Gold Race Rockers.

Thanks guys. I thought they were too good to be true. Where is the best price on pro mags or the gold race rockers?

Thanks

Joe

I just read the description on the gold roller rockers and answered my own question. Self-aligning it is.

Thanks

What difference does it make what the cam specs are????? Does it say somewhere on the box "Don't use these crap rocker arms if the lift is over X inches"????????

I would be concerned about Proforms or at least unsure of their quailty. I have purchased several Proform engine tools, and while they get the job done, they are backyard mechanic grade at best.

If you want a quality, budget billet RR, try the Summit private label ones. I purchased a set for a BBC engine I did two years ago and they have done well. They have big trunion bearings are billet (vs cast) and appear to be very well made. I am sure they are made by a major state-side manufacturer like Crane, Comp ,etc, but with the Summit label. They were inexpensive compared to the Crane Golds but may be the same RR?

I would go with NSA and use guideplates.
