Re: procharge kit

Stock f-bodies do not take well to boost. Not to mention the astronomical price of supercharger kits nowadays - $6k for a new kit. You're also starting in the hole since you have zero modifications. Unless you have a TON of money to burn you're heading down the wrong path. A properly supercharged engine needs to be built to handle the boost - minimum $3000 for the bottom end, a GOOD exhaust, the list goes on.

For the price, you could have a more reliable heads/cam/bolt-on LT1 with more power than a supercharger alone.

Take a look at the site sponsor list. Just about anything you could ask for is provided. Tons of links to choose from rather than me typing them all out.

I wouldn't say a heads/cam car is anymore reliable than a supercharged car.

I should point out that my reliability statement is based on the decision to supercharge a stock motor with a stock bottom end. If the motor is built to handle the boost properly then yes, the reliability would be similar.

Not to mention the unfortunate temptation of new supercharger owners who immediately put on a smaller pulley and tempt fate...

Nope and he still needs most of the supporting mods, not to mention probably replacement of some worn out cam bearings, oil pump, and other stuff. It's expensive and a lot of work anyway he decides to go. It's not a new car he's starting out with. Of course, he didn't tell us anything about his car so we don't know what's already been done to it or what kind of shape it is in.

OP, my advice to you is to save up some money and read this forum for an hour every night for the next few months.

Yep - definitely a road that a lot of us have been down.

Depends on how much boost you want to run, your HP/ET requirements, etc. Might want to try the FI forum.

But if it were me, I'd go between 9 and 9.5:1. I will certainly agree that 11.5:1 is way too high for ANY amount of boost.

Re: procharge kit

Do not go cheap on the "funny gas"..... or you will need new pistons and rings and maybe a whole new engine. I've been running nitrous almost since my car was new, starting with an NOS 125HP dry kit on the stock engine in 1995, and now running a 300-shot on a totally forged 381 that was specifically built to handle that kind of power. I've burned a few plugs, and suffered from a a minor "pop" that bent up my throttle blades, but limiting the damage is the result of installing the correct components, and tuning, tuning, tuning.
