Problems with Pro 5.0 shifter.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with their pro 5.0 shifter. Mine buzzes and rattles at times and is getting annoying. When I first installed it, it was perfectly fine, but for some reason now it makes this rattling/buzzing noise. I thought maybe the bolts that held it onto the trans were loose so I put some lock-tite on them and bolted it back down but that didn't help. Could it be my trans mount? Is there something I can do to the actual shifter to fix this? Need any suggestions I can get!

sounds like normal pro 5.0 rattle to me. it is the noisiest shifter out there but it is by far the best.

It will transfer more noise to the interior. If the noise has suddenly become louder than I'd guess it's something OTHER than the shifter. There aren't really many moving parts to break and the thing is well built. Is the stick securely attached to the base of the unit? Those bolts will back out on occassion. Other than that.. does it make the noise all the time or only with the clutch out (in neutral)? Have you recently put in any new suspension pieces with polyurethane bushings - that would also transfer more noise to the interior. A broken tranny mount would make a loud thud on occassion.. it would not lead to a buzz or rattle though.

Just a few thoughts

Yeah the noise is normal, just put mine in last week. Make sure the stop screws dont rest against the stick when it is gear. That would cause a rattle noise as it would be just barely against the stick and would vibrate.

you don't add performance mods for noise reduction/comfort

When I installed mine I made a gasket from rubberized gasket material to install between the shifter & tranny to minimize the sound.... worked pretty good.

where did you find some rubber that can be used for a gasket?

Only thing I could find was this packet of 4 difft gasket material at autozone. It wasnt out on the floor, I had to ask for it. They had rubber/cork, cork, paper/cork, and one other. I think I should have used the rubber and cork as it was thicker. I used the rubber/paper gasket material. Just go to the project trans am website and follow that install guide .

Kinda off subject but of all my friends that have aftermarket shifters they all rattle except a buddy of mine with a Pro 5.0. LOL

But my Billet Hurst rattled, I shoved a ton of foam down in there to dampen the sound and it worked great.
