Problems with car.. help please

Hey everyone, I got a 96 M6 camaro and Ive been having a problem with it for quite some time now. First off this started as my car having like this miss in it then it went to my car dieing when I went WOT which I could not figure out. Then one day Im pulling out of a driveway and started to take off and it died on me and wouldnt start at all. Okay, first thing that went thu my mind was, oh boy the fuel pump went out. So being the dumb *** I am, I dropped the tank and put a new pump in. Still no start, would crank over, but wouldnt start.

Well, then I thought, oh boy, its the opti! So, being the dumbass I am, I pulled everything apart to find my waterpump with the bearing falling apart in it, YEHH!! I get to replace that too while Im down here, how cool. So I bought new water pump and a brand new opti. Got it all installed, 3 months after it broke down the first time, and guess what? Still no start.

So I thought, well only about two other things it could be, the ignition module or the coil. Bought a new coil, installed it, still nothing. Got a new ignition module, still nothing. Well, I thought wtf, Im getting a test light and Im gonna track this bitch down. So I put it on the hot wire to the coil. Turned key on, and guess what? NO FIRE!! YEHHH AWESOME, $800 later and here I am with no fire at the coil. Ok, so I start looking at wires, seeing if something is disconnected, nope everything looked ok. Turned key on, wow Ive got fire, turned her over and she started. I was like YES!! I got it fixed. Didnt know how, didnt care, all I knew was it was running. So I shut the hood to go wash it, heh. Well, soon as I shut hood it died. Wouldnt start anymore.

So I got to jiggling wires and it would get fire and loose fire. So I thought well I have a short somewhere. Well, I tried to trace this down and I cannot for the life of me figure out where this short is. I belive it is somewhere near the coil and ignition module but I cant pinpoint it. Anyone have any idea what wire, what connector, what whatever it is is causing this? Because I can be driving down the road and the damn thing just dies, then it gets fire agian and bucks then it runs fine for a bit. Then itll do it agian... sometimes Itll completely die and Ill have to get out and jiggle the wires to get it to start agian, and sometimes it still wont and I have to fiddle with it for 15mins to get it to run. I thought it was the four prong connector that goes to the ignition module loosing connection on it, so I took it off and bent the prongs inside it for a tighter fit, but Im begining to belive that has nothing todo with it. Doesnt make since that its loosing fire before that connector.

If anyone can help me, or has any ideas Id be very greatful, this is really making me pissed at my car, I hardly even drive it anymore because I cant even drive 2 blocks without it trying to die.

I don't think your experiencing a short since typically when you short voltage to ground, it will blow a fuse. Notice I said typically. I would think your problem is an open supply or ground. There is a ground point (G111) right to the side of the ICM, check it to be sure it is clean, tight and not broken. FYI, this is the ground for the AC compressor, all the O2's, the PCM and the ICM. You should probably check all the grounds including the negative battery cable, the ground by the positive cluster, the one by the AC compressor and the one by the starter.

The problem could be a poor connection or a broken wire. What I would do is measure the supply voltage to a few things around where you were wiggling. While you wiggle, watch the meter to see what happens to the voltage.

Put your meter on the pink wire of the ICM and the black wire of the ICM. Wiggle the crap out of the wires and see if the voltage fluctuates to the connector. Check the pink wire going to the coil for 12 volts to ground and wiggle that pink wire too. Check the one to the MAF the same way last.

Let us know how you make out.

You might want to have it scanned. There are a number of DTC codes that will set for shorts and opens in the ignition circuit.

Sounds to me, like it very possibly could have been as simple as a fuel filter... SAME symptons I experienced, with a $10 part on a 5 minute job

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes

Accually I forgot to mention I replaced it first, heh. Before anything.

I was looking at it earlier today and it is in that connector, I donno how its messed up but it is, I grabbed the 4 wires on this connector, see pic, and pulled them up with the car running, when I pulled up the car tried to die, and I quickly pulled the wires down and the car tried to pick itself back up and stay running but it died. So I know its in this connector, so I got it off and goto looking at it and noticed the pink wire down in the connector looked different from all the other 3. So I pulled all the wires and the plugs out and looked at them with it out. They all looked the same then. So I donno what exactly is wrong in this plug, but something is. So I need a replacement one, if anyone has a parts car laying around or something, with one of these connectors could u cut it about 3 inches back from the connector so I can solder it back on my car and either pm me or email me, dwraby@***.net if u got one. Heres the picture of the plug, notice the #'s and Words on the plug.

Ignition Module connector

The wires are layed out in the correct order and the words and the number is exactly where they are on the connector.

Try the dealer for replacements. You should crimp the pins on the end of the wires that are left in the engine bay. Try to avoid splicing as much as you can. Provided they are long enough. If you can't get a good crimp and most of us can't, make as good a connection as you can and then solder the pins to the wire. Your orientation is right on. A is pink, B is white, C is black and D is green. Only get a used connector from a junk car as a last resort. If you do, solder and shink wrap the connections. Be careful when you push the pins into the housing since there is a "right side up" where the barb on the back catches in the housing.

Glad you found it

If you can't find a plug pm' my buddy turbo_z. He has a left over wiring harness from a caprice LT1 car that we use for parts. It may still have the plug you need.
