problem with clutch (centerforce dual friction)
problem with clutch (centerforce dual friction)
i got a centerforce dual friction for my 96 z28 last summer. about two months ago i noticed that the engagement point is now all the way at the top of the peddal. before it was in the middle.. and it drove soo nice.. smooth.. right now its so hard to control it. sometimes i let it go too fast the car just dies, and some other time it just takes off.. its so hard to control it..but one thing i know is that the clutch doesnt slip.. so i took it to my mechanic who installed it for me.. he said that my clutch was almost dead... he said there is maybe 40% left, and thats why the engagement point is now all the way up.. how could a clutch die in like less than 8 k? i only drove the car for 8 k.. he said there are no adjustments for it since it has slave cylinder or something .. no leaks either..
what do u guys think is the problem.. u really think my clutch is dead after 8k? btw i drive very normally.. i dont race.. or lace my tires .. so no harsh driving..
thanx

I think you should check the simple things like the slave cylinder, or linkage on the pedal, did you change the slave cylinder when you put in the new clutch? I ran a Centerforce for over a year, racing at least twice a month or more, with a 150 shot, headers, and a Moser 9", with ETstreet tires, launching at 5 grand. The clutch would slip, and it couldn't take all the abuse that I gaveit, but I also drove the car everyday to work, 60 miles each way. I don't see how the clutch could be worn out that quickly. Is it slipping at all? Can you smell anything?
I am going through a similar prob with my CF clutch. The shop that installed is going to look at the hydraulics and "make" the cylinder adjustable by cutting it and installing a nut to get it to engage a little more.
I have the same problem but i'm using the SLP clutch it started to get further and further to the top. Now it is at the very top and everytime i drive the car i can smell burnt clutch. I checked the fluid and it was fine. I already bought a new clutch, PP, and flywheel. I'm gonna install it this weekend but maybe i'm just over looking something. Let me know if you figure anything out.
i am using the steel flywheel, and my friend has a stock flywheel. I have adjustable master. With the car jacked up my wheels start to spin right of the floor, but when i dirve it the cluch feels like it starts to hold pretty much right at the top. I talked to few people about this and they say its normal
ok i dont get this.. is it the slave cylinder or the master cylinder? Idid a search and alot of ppl call it clutch master cylinder.. I thought it was called slave cyl.. and can i buy an adjustbale one? would that fix the problem? if yes where can i get one.
Thanx

I don't know if that would fix the problem but i know mcleod makes one. It is called the clutch master cylinder. But the slave cylinder is the part that is connect to the tranny. It is called the "slave" because it is the one that does all the work. The one thats in the engine bay is the master. It comes in a whole kit i believe. At least it did when i got my new one from GM. It came with the slave and master.
